Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization

Help ensure that the reauthorization of the Child Nutrition Act assures healthy food choices in schools by signing this petition.

"We believe that federally funded nutrition programs should provide all children with the healthy food they deserve. This includes low fat and safe dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Schools should be soda and junk-food-free zones and serve food that complements and furthers parents' efforts to feed their children healthfully."

In June 2009, the Healthy School Food Brigade took 50,000 signatures and over 130 moms from across the country to Congress to remove soda and junk foods from all public schools. Every five years, Congress reauthorizes the Child Nutrition Act which determines what kids are eating in all federally funded nutrition programs. Congress has been stalling on passing the bill and it is set to expire this September.

However, the Food, Inc campaign and groups like Center for Science in the Public Interest are keeping the pressure on Congress to vote on the bill before the summer recess. Now even kids are taking to the cause - dressing up as fruits and veggies on Capitol Hill!
Check it out.

Over 200,000 people have signed our petition. We're headed back to Washington this month to deliver all of these signatures and to demand a vote. Make your voice heard by signing our petition.
